IKEA Canada is partnering with Swedish colourist Tekla Evelina Severin (known as Teklan) on a new collection of colourful lighting and sound products launching across Canada in January 2026. The collaboration turns speakers and lamps into statement pieces, using bold colour and playful forms to make home technology feel more visible and personal in everyday spaces.
Overview of the IKEA x Teklan collaboration
The collection introduces speakers, lamp-speakers, and lighting designed to bring self-expression into every room through colour, pattern, and silhouette. IKEA Canada positions the range as a way for shoppers to make home tech not just functional but an integrated part of their interiors that reflects each home’s character.
Bedrooms Business Manager Mathias Karlsson at IKEA Canada said, “At IKEA Canada, we want to empower Canadians to make home technology not just functional but seamlessly integrated into their living spaces, reflecting the unique character and needs of the home.” He also said, “We’re thrilled Canadians will be able to experience this collaboration with Teklan, which offered the ability to infuse colour, form and character to our existing lighting and sound range.”
Colour as the starting point
The collaboration builds on Teklan’s signature approach to colour, where bold yet carefully balanced palettes interact with geometric shapes to create depth and visual movement. Her practice often examines how two-dimensional colour explorations can be translated into three-dimensional objects that change the feel of a room.
Describing the idea behind the line, Teklan said, “Colour is such an emotional and powerful tool; it can completely change how we see an object and shape the atmosphere of a room.” She also said, “We wanted to bring that softness and friendliness into technology, to help people see home electronics differently and invite more colour into their everyday spaces.”
SOLSKYDD speakers bring sound and presence
A central pillar of the range is SOLSKYDD, a family of round Bluetooth speakers designed by Ola Wihlborg with equal attention to acoustics and silhouette. Outside of the collaboration, SOLSKYDD comes in a clean white version, while the Teklan editions introduce more expressive colour blocking and patterns.
The SOLSKYDD lineup includes three speakers, each with its own size and visual personality, such as a small portable model in bright orange and a medium speaker in green with brown and beige diagonal stripes. All SOLSKYDD speakers can connect with each other and with compatible IKEA Bluetooth speakers for multi-speaker setups, and they support Spotify Tap, allowing users to resume listening with a single press.
KULGLASS lamp-speakers mixing light and audio
The collection also debuts KULGLASS, a pair of lamp-speakers that combine light, sound, and colour in one object. Available in shades of green and red-brown with pink, the designs have rounded, character-like silhouettes topped with a swirl-shaped shade inspired by soft-serve ice cream.
Explaining the concept, Teklan said, “I wanted this inviting shape to contrast the technical complexity we usually associate with high-quality sound.” She further shared, “While the inside is advanced, the outside feels warm, open, and easy to understand. For the colours, I was chasing a soothing feeling from the past. The mint green came from a childhood memory, and I even went to my grandparents’ home to match it to the exact shade of an old bar of soap I remembered.”
Spotted FADO and earlier collab pieces
Alongside the new speakers and lamp-speakers, the launch includes a spotted version of IKEA’s classic FADO lamp. The updated FADO keeps its simple round glass form but adds a dotted surface treatment intended to create a gentle, decorative glow that works with the rest of the collection’s palette.
The IKEA and Teklan partnership had already appeared earlier in 2025 through additional products in the range. These included two new colourways of the VAPPEBY portable speaker and 14 braided charging cables under the names SITTBRUNN, RUNDHULT and LILLHULT, which were inspired by climbing ropes and designed in bold retro colours. Those pieces were positioned as early steps toward making everyday tech accessories more graphic and tactile.
Availability and reach in Canada
The SOLSKYDD, KULGLASS, and spotted FADO products will roll out at IKEA Canada starting in January 2026, across 16 stores in Canada and online. The launch fits into IKEA’s broader strategy of evolving its smart home and sound portfolio through collaborations that bring in outside creative perspectives.
IKEA Canada is part of Ingka Group, which operates 574 IKEA stores, shop,s and planning studios in 31 countries, including 16 in Canada. In its latest fiscal year, IKEA Canada recorded 32.6 million in-store visitors and 162.6 million visits to IKEA.ca, giving the Teklan collaboration a wide platform as it enters the market.
Colourful tech as part of everyday living
By pairing Teklan’s colour-driven design language with IKEA’s home-furnishing reach, the new range is designed to shift how people see electronics at home, from neutral hardware to visible, expressive objects. Speakers and lamps in the collection are meant to sit comfortably alongside textiles, furniture and art, turning sound and light into tools for shaping the look and feel of a room.
