Citizen is bringing Vera Wang into its watch business with a new global collection set to launch in spring 2027, pairing the designer’s fashion authority with the brand’s long running Eco Drive technology. The line will include 24 pieces across statement styles, ready to wear watches, and couture inspired designs for both women and men.
The timing is deliberate. The collaboration arrives as Citizen marks 50 years of light powered watch innovation, giving the company a fashion led way to spotlight one of its core technologies while widening its appeal in design conscious categories.
A Fashion Move With Commercial Intent
This is not being positioned as a one off designer drop. Citizen is using the partnership to support a broader push in women’s watches, which it calls one of the fastest growing segments in the global watch market.
Jeffrey Cohen, President of Citizen Watch America, said, “At Citizen, innovation has always been about more than technology – it’s about how technology empowers design. Partnering with Vera Wang, one of the most iconic female designers, was a rare opportunity. This wasn’t a licensing relationship; we collaborated side by side. Vera chose Citizen intentionally, and the trust and respect between us allowed her vision of how women wear watches today to guide the process. The result is a collection that resonates with our long time fans and a new generation of women seeking style, sophistication, and performance.”
That quote does a lot of work for the brand. It frames the launch as a design collaboration with real input rather than a simple logo exercise, while also making clear that Citizen sees this as a way to speak more directly to women looking for both style and function.
Vera Wang Brings a Stronger Design Lens
The collection was developed through what the release describes as a close creative partnership, with Wang involved in concept development, material selection, and case architecture. The result is meant to sit between horology and jewelry, spanning more wearable everyday styles as well as sharper, more sculptural pieces.
Vera Wang said, “My decision to partner with Citizen was deeply intentional. With more than 100 years of watchmaking expertise, they bring a level of technical innovation and craftsmanship that’s rare in the industry. Their ability to execute at scale without compromising artistry allowed us to explore new silhouettes and reimagine how time can be worn for women who define their own style.”
That gives the launch a more substantial design rationale than many fashion watch pairings. It also helps position the collection around individuality and modern styling rather than purely heritage cues.
Eco Drive Remains the Core Technology Story
Every watch in the collection will be powered by Citizen’s proprietary Eco Drive technology, which converts any kind of light into the energy needed to run a watch and removes the need for battery replacement. On its official technology page, Citizen describes Eco Drive as a light powered system that can convert light ranging from bright sun to dim indoor lighting into energy.
That technical base gives the collection more credibility beyond aesthetics. It also reinforces a point Citizen has been pushing for decades: that innovation in watchmaking can support both performance and design, not force a tradeoff between the two.
Why the Launch Matters
For Citizen, this is a brand move as much as a product launch. The company is using a known designer to refresh its image in a category where jewelry styling, fashion credibility, and wearability increasingly shape purchasing decisions.
For the wider market, the collaboration reflects a familiar retail strategy with renewed relevance: pair proven product technology with a designer who brings cultural recognition and a clear visual point of view. If the collection lands, Citizen will not just have a new watch line in 2027. It will have a stronger argument for why traditional watchmaking brands can still win attention through fashion.
