Abu Dhabi’s fashion landscape gains a new avant-garde player as The Frankie Shop, the cult-favorite label renowned for minimalist, gender-neutral designs, launches its first Middle East retail experience. From April 18 to May 1, 2025, the brand’s pop-up at Region Concept Space in MiZa, Mina Zayed, merges sleek aesthetics with local culture, marking a strategic expansion into the region’s burgeoning luxury market.

A Collaborative Vision with Local Flair

Developed in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO) and designed by LA-based studio Perron-Roettinger, the pop-up transforms 83 شارع صَمْرَيْر into an immersive journey through The Frankie Shop’s ethos. The space, envisioned as “a day in the life of a Frankie customer,” features vignettes spanning home, office, and urban environments. Neutral travertine tones, crushed linen textures, and mirrored installations reflect the brand’s signature clean lines, while palm-patterned rugs by Emirati artist Cheb Moha and exclusive artwork by Tulip Hazbar infuse regional artistry.

Exclusive Collections and Hybrid Experiences

The pop-up debuts 50 Abu Dhabi-exclusive designs, including avant-première pieces and tailored staples like oversized blazers, parachute pants, and structured coats. Collaborations spotlight local talent, such as customized pouches with Karen Wazen Eyewear and a Frankie Coffee Shop partnership with 48 Collagen Café, offering collagen-infused beverages. Tech-driven touches, like LED masks and AR try-ons, blend self-care with futurism.

Events Blending Fashion and Culture

The launch event on April 17 set the tone with a DJ set by Cheb Moha and a panel discussion featuring founder Gaëlle Drevet and regional platform StyleNotCom. Over the two weeks, programming includes styling sessions by influencer Bettina Looney and talks on Middle Eastern fashion’s global rise. “This isn’t just retail—it’s storytelling,” Drevet noted, emphasizing the brand’s mission to fuse “polished restraint” with Abu Dhabi’s dynamic energy.

Strategic Expansion into the Middle East

The pop-up aligns with Abu Dhabi’s push to position Mina Zayed as a creative hub, attracting global brands while nurturing local talent. As The Frankie Shop’s third physical space—joining flagships in Paris and New York—the debut shows the Middle East’s growing influence in luxury retail. With the region’s apparel market projected to exceed $70 billion by 2030, the move taps into demand for understated, versatile luxury.

Future Implications

The Frankie Shop’s Abu Dhabi venture signals a shift toward experiential retail, where design, art, and community converge. As the pop-up continues through May 1, it not only showcases the brand’s ethos but also sets a precedent for how global labels can authentically engage with Middle Eastern consumers. For fashion enthusiasts, it’s a rare chance to explore a “living moodboard” where minimalist elegance meets desert-inspired maximalism.
