Tamburins is doubling down on China’s luxury beauty boom with a new flagship that turns fragrance retail into an immersive art experience at Taikoo Li Sanlitun in Beijing.
Tamburins Lands in Beijing’s Hottest Luxury District
Seoul born fragrance label Tamburins, created by the team behind eyewear powerhouse Gentle Monster, has opened a new flagship boutique at Taikoo Li Sanlitun, one of Beijing’s most influential luxury and lifestyle destinations. The opening plants the beauty brand alongside a roster of statement flagships from houses like Hermès and Louis Vuitton, both of which have recently expanded their presence in the same district as a vote of confidence in China’s premium retail market.
The new Tamburins space sits within the open air mall that has become a showcase for global luxury brands using architecture and experiential design to compete for attention. For Tamburins, whose identity has always blurred the line between gallery and store, Sanlitun offers the ideal stage to scale that concept to a wider Chinese audience.
An “Artistic Sanctuary” of Scent, Objects, and Gifting
Tamburins and local visitors describe the Beijing flagship as an artistic sanctuary where scents, objects, and the art of gifting harmonize into a single scene. Inside, sculptural fixtures and carefully staged vignettes guide shoppers through the brand’s core categories, fragrance, hand and body care, treating each product as both an olfactory experience and collectible object.
This approach builds on Tamburins’ earlier flagships in Seoul, Tokyo, and Shanghai, where installations have included oversized animal sculptures, surreal landscapes, and immersive soundscapes designed to make every visit feel like a cultural outing rather than a quick shop. In Sanlitun, that language translates into a calm, luminous environment that contrasts with the district’s high energy streets, encouraging lingering, testing, and discovery.
Part of Gentle Monster’s Expanding Lifestyle Universe
Launched by the creators of Gentle Monster, Tamburins has quickly carved out a niche as a design driven fragrance house where storytelling, architecture and packaging are as important as the juice inside the bottle. Earlier expansions saw the brand open shop in shops inside Gentle Monster’s HAUS NOWHERE flagships in Shanghai and Shenzhen, before moving into standalone locations such as its Shaanxi Bei Lu flagship in Shanghai in 2024.
The new Beijing boutique at Taikoo Li Sanlitun signals a next phase: planting Tamburins in high traffic, mixed use luxury hubs where tourists, fashion consumers, and beauty enthusiasts intersect. As sister brand Gentle Monster continues to expand its own flagship footprint in Sanlitun, the two together form a mini ecosystem of Korean born, concept driven retail in one of China’s most closely watched shopping districts.
A Destination for Luxury Fragrance and Fan Culture
The Sanlitun flagship is already emerging as a magnet for both fragrance fans and pop culture communities. Local social chatter has linked the space and nearby Tamburins activations to celebrity and K pop appearances, helping generate queue worthy buzz that mirrors the hype often seen at Gentle Monster openings.
For Tamburins, this combination of conceptual design, limited edition storytelling, and fandom driven traffic is a powerful way to stand out in China’s crowded luxury beauty field. Instead of competing purely on product or price, the brand is betting that shoppers will travel for a store that feels like a dreamscape, where taking photos, testing scents, and choosing gifts become a single, memorable ritual.
