We sat down with VP of Merchandising & Design at Yummie, Alicia Burns to ask how their patented women’s appeal products are revolutionizing the shape-wear industry.
What is the design philosophy behind Yummie, how is the brand creating clothing a cut above the rest?
Yummie’s design philosophy is to create intimate and ready to wear essentials that uniquely combine functionality and comfort to embrace women’s curves and boost their confidence all day, every day. Each style takes many months to design and develop, going through extensive wear tests, to reflect the fit expertise and aesthetic appearance Yummie is renowned for.
How does the patented design play a role in creating top quality shapewear?
There is no better example than our patented 3-panel tank tops we invented that smooth and shape a woman’s midsection, without pinching, rolling, riding up or compressing her chest. The center panel is made from a 2-ply tricot and has an hourglass shape that provides our signature Yummie Hug, while the top and bottom sections are made from a breathable cotton.

Our first patent was issued 2009 and we now have 12 in total for our 3- panel tanks. All our signature shaping styles - tanks, bodysuits, intimate bottoms, and leggings - feature the Yummie Hug that provides a flattering, smoother midsection without ever sacrificing comfort or mobility.

Another example of Yummie’s product innovation is our use of the patented Outlast temperature control yarn. First developed for NASA space gloves to protect against extreme temperature fluctuations, the Outlast yarn used in many of our shaping tank tops, shaping bodysuits and bras regulates a woman’s body temperature, absorbing excess heat when she is warm and releasing heat when she is cold. Because the Outlast fiber is knitted into our garments, it never washes off and lasts forever. Our Outlast® fabric also has an incredibly soft, caressing “Yummie” hand to keep women feeling good all day long as Yummie once again combines comfort with functionality.

Because this perception is accurate about many shapewear brands, it is exactly the reason why we created Yummie — so women can have slenderizing intimates and RTW that are as comfortable as non-shaping garments.
