This June, New York City is reimagined as a vibrant playground for secondhand fashion as Depop unveils its “New York is on Depop” campaign. The initiative transforms the city into a living showcase for sustainable style, with billboards, subway stations, and bus stops featuring real New Yorkers whose individuality and creativity are at the heart of the Depop community.

Depop, one of the only U.S. resale marketplaces with zero selling fees, is bringing its community-first ethos to life across the city, while exclusive shop drops and limited-edition collaborations extend the campaign’s reach nationwide.

Immersive Events Across the City

Depop’s citywide celebration is anchored by a series of high-profile events and partnerships that highlight the intersection of fashion, art, and community:

Depop x Brooklyn Museum First Saturday Pride (June 7)

Depop kicks off the month as the exclusive sponsor of the Brooklyn Museum’s iconic after-hours event. Shoppers can explore curated collections from standout sellers—@andvintageee, @Shopjuliananyc, and @Zemistar—while enjoying live performances and capturing moments at a custom photo station.

Depop x Brooklyn Stroll Club (June 7)

A pre-Father’s Day morning event at Rivian Williamsburg puts sustainable family style in the spotlight. Fashion-forward dads and their kids are invited to a playful clothes swap, demonstrating how secondhand shopping can create unique, ever-evolving style moments for families.

Depop Block Party (June 14)

Depop brings the ultimate summer celebration to the streets with a block party featuring NYC-based sellers, local DJs, food trucks, and interactive experiences. The event turns the city into a dynamic marketplace and creative playground, inviting all to discover and celebrate sustainable style.

Depop x Cosmopolitan Closet (Nationwide shop drop June 17, IRL event June 21)

A six-month partnership with Cosmopolitan launches with exclusive in-app shop drops curated by Cosmo editors. The collaboration culminates in an in-person shopping event in SoHo, hosted by Cosmopolitan Editor-In-Chief Willa Bennett, where guests can shop vintage finds and participate in creative experiences.

A Commitment to Sustainability

At the core of Depop’s takeover is a steadfast commitment to sustainability. Since its founding, Depop users have given over 100 million items a second life. In the past three years alone, sales on the platform have helped save 300,000 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions and 9.2 billion liters of water.

Empowering the Next Generation

Depop’s Student Manager program is driving grassroots change across 100 U.S. universities, with more than 200 campus managers organizing flea markets, swap shops, and educational seminars. This Earth Month, 385 student-led events gave nearly 23,000 pieces of clothing a second life, saving an estimated 1 million gallons of water.

Peter Semple, Depop’s Interim CEO, commented, “Across June, we're making circular fashion more visible, accessible and engaging for New Yorkers through a mix of media, IRL experiences and digital shopping. From our partnership with the Brooklyn Museum to our first-ever Depop Block Party to a pop-up shop with Cosmopolitan, we'll be showing up where culture, communities, creativity and commerce intersect. Through these moments, and with the great secondhand fashion on Depop, we're excited to celebrate and contribute to the many kinds of style and self-expression that have their home in New York.”

A New Era for Fashion in New York

With “New York is on Depop,” the city becomes a beacon for circular fashion, community-powered style, and bold self-expression. Whether in the heart of NYC or participating from afar, everyone is invited to join the movement and experience the future of fashion one that is sustainable, inclusive, and uniquely New York.
