In September 2021, the fashion world witnessed a groundbreaking collaboration between two iconic Italian luxury labels, Versace and Fendi. The creative minds behind this partnership were Donatella Versace, chief creative officer of Versace, and Kim Jones, artistic director of women's and couture at Fendi. Together, they gave birth to 'Fendace,' a unique fusion of both brands' design hallmarks and ethos.
The Fendace collaboration featured a full creative swap, with Versace designing a "Fendi by Versace" collection and Jones, along with Fendi's Silvia Venturini Fendi, creating a "Versace by Fendi" collection. The result was a dazzling amalgamation of some of fashion's most iconic brand codes, reimagining classic silhouettes from both houses.
Jones' collection for Versace showcased many of the design house's signature styles, such as safety pins, the iconic Baroque print, and sheared furs.
On the other hand, Versace's collection for Fendi embodied her signature sexy aesthetic with pieces like minidresses, '70s-inspired denim pantsuits, and shimmery gowns. In addition to apparel, the collections included handbags, sneakers, heels, belts, hats, scarves, and sunglasses, among other accessories.
The Fendace campaign, shot by renowned photographer Steven Meisel, featured an all-star cast of models, including Adut Akech, Anok Yai, Imaan Hammam, and Naomi Campbell. The collections were launched during a pre-fall 2022 joint fashion show, with top models like Campbell, Kate Moss, Gigi Hadid, and Amber Valletta gracing the runway.
The Fendace collaboration is now available for purchase at pop-ups across the globe, as well as on Versace and Fendi websites and boutiques. The "Versace by Fendi" collection ranges in price from $195 for a pair of logo-bearing socks to $32,000 for a silk bomber jacket, while the "Fendi by Versace" collection ranges from $195 for a pair of logo-bearing socks to $38,975 for a metal mesh maxidress.
This unprecedented collaboration between Versace and Fendi, known as Fendace, has undoubtedly set a new standard for fashion partnerships, showcasing the power of friendship and creativity in the industry.
