eBay Creates New Resell Feature To Simplify Resale

eBay has introduced an innovative "resell on eBay" feature designed to simplify the process of listing pre-owned clothing for resale. This new feature, launched on May 16th, 2024, is part of eBay's broader initiative to foster a circular economy in the fashion industry, making it easier for brands and consumers to engage in recommerce.

The "resell on eBay" button is seamlessly integrated into product tags via QR codes on participating brands' smart labels. When users scan these QR codes, they are directed to a web page where they can quickly list their items for resale with just a few clicks. This streamlined process significantly reduces the friction typically associated with reselling items, encouraging more people to give their pre-loved fashion items a second life.

Charis Marquez, eBay's global general manager of fashion, emphasized the importance of this feature in reducing waste and promoting sustainability. "Our new resell feature helps brands keep their products out of landfill while giving consumers an incredibly easy way to give their item a second life," she stated. This initiative aligns with eBay's commitment to creating a more sustainable marketplace by removing barriers to recommerce.

Italian brand Save The Duck is the first to implement this feature in its connected garments, showcasing the potential for other brands to follow suit. Integrating with Certilogo’s Secure by Design digital ID technology ensures that each item is authenticated and its details pre-filled, making the listing process even more efficient.

Michele Casucci, CEO and founder of Certilogo, highlighted the natural progression of their innovation, stating, "With 540 million products already connected by our secure digital IDs, our mission is to empower brands by helping them create an experience that blends the physical with the digital world."

This new feature builds on eBay's previous successes in simplifying the resale process. Last year, eBay launched a customized listing flow for sneakers, which received positive feedback from sellers. The platform employed AI to extract details from images for listings, enabling sellers to list items more efficiently and providing buyers with comprehensive product information.
