Adore Me's Launches Sustainability-Focused Startup Accelerator

Lingerie brand Adore Me has announced the launch of its Sustainability Accelerator program, which aims to support climate tech startups in the apparel industry. This initiative will give startups access to Adore Me's supply chain data and manufacturing processes, allowing them to test and integrate their sustainable technologies within a real-world operational framework.

RB Insights

  • Adore Me's Sustainability Accelerator will partner with climate tech startups for 6 to 12 months.
  • Startups will gain access to Adore Me's internal operations to develop case studies and improve their products.
  • The first cohort includes five startups focusing on digital infrastructure and smart materials.
  • The program aims to enhance sustainability practices in the apparel industry without guaranteed participant funding.

Overview Of The Accelerator Program

The Adore Me Sustainability Accelerator is designed to foster innovation in sustainable practices by collaborating with startups focusing on climate technology. The program will last six to twelve months, during which selected startups will work closely with Adore Me to integrate their solutions into the company's operations.

Unlike traditional accelerators, this initiative does not promise equity funding or financial backing. According to Ranjan Roy, Adore Me's VP of Strategy, the primary challenge for these startups is not securing funding but establishing partnerships and demonstrating their ability to scale and succeed in the market.

First Cohort Of Startups

The inaugural cohort of the Sustainability Accelerator includes five startups:

  1. EverDye - Focused on sustainable dyeing processes.
  2. Carbonfact - A data platform that helps companies track their carbon footprint.
  3. Commonshare - Aiming to enhance supply chain transparency.
  4. Pendulum - Specializing in smart materials.
  5. Epoch - Innovating in sustainable production methods.

These startups will have the unique opportunity to test their products in a mid-sized company environment, which is often more agile than larger legacy brands. This setup allows for a more effective integration of new technologies and practices.

Adore Me's Commitment To Sustainability

Founded in 2011, Adore Me has been on a journey towards sustainability, becoming the first lingerie brand to achieve B-Corp certification. The company generated approximately $250 million in revenue in 2022 and was acquired by Victoria’s Secret in early 2023. This acquisition is seen as a strategic move to leverage technology for growth and sustainability.

Looking Forward

The launch of the Sustainability Accelerator comes when many companies are under pressure to improve their sustainability practices. Research indicates that supply chains contribute significantly to a company's overall emissions, making it crucial for businesses to find effective ways to track and reduce their carbon footprint.
