Bottega Veneta marked World Art Awareness Month with an intimate conversation at Palazzo San Fedele, bringing together co founder Renzo Zengiaro, Creative Director Louise Trotter and employees from across the house in a year that celebrates its 60th anniversary. The event became a live bridge between the brand’s origins in 1966 and its present, using the story of the Intrecciato leather weave to explore how craft, values and identity continue to evolve.

Founded in Vicenza in 1966 by Renzo Zengiaro and Michele Taddei, Bottega Veneta has built its reputation on quiet luxury, artisanal leatherwork and the belief that “when your own initials are enough.” The conversation at Palazzo San Fedele in Milan comes as the house celebrates six decades of history and as Louise Trotter, Creative Director since 2025, continues to re-centre craft and collaboration in her vision for the brand.

Renzo Zengiaro on origins and Intrecciato During the discussion, Renzo Zengiaro revisited the early days of Bottega Veneta, reflecting on how a small leather goods workshop in Veneto grew into a house defined by its artisans and materials rather than overt logos.
He spoke about the birth of Intrecciato in the 1970s, a woven leather technique originally developed because the brand’s sewing machines were not designed to handle thick leather, pushing artisans to cut hides into thinner strips and weave them for strength.
