Urban Outfitters has redefined its approach to vintage and secondhand clothing by launching its new program, Vintage + Remade. The initiative is a dual-faceted program designed to cater to the diverse tastes of Urban Outfitters' clientele.
The 'Vintage' section offers authentic vintage finds, meticulously discovered and curated into limited-edition collections by the brand's in-house merchandising team and external collaborators.
On the other hand, the 'Remade' category introduces items that have been repaired, restored, or updated by Urban Outfitters’ product team. This includes new products crafted from deadstock fabric, showcasing the brand's commitment to sustainability and innovation.
Urban Outfitters curates limited collections that blend new items with vintage pieces in collaboration with fashion brands such as Puppy Breath, Lucky Loves Label, and others promoted through paid social ads and prominently displayed on the revamped website.
Urban Outfitters' dedication to sustainability extends beyond Vintage + Remade. The brand's Urban Renewal line focuses on repurposed, remade, and one-of-a-kind vintage goods, emphasizing the company's commitment to reducing environmental impact and promoting circular fashion. Since its inception, Urban Renewal has recirculated over 6 million garments, preventing them from ending up in landfills.
Most recently, Urban Renewal launched a collaboration with Tessa Fay, a collection that represents a unique fusion of vintage charm and contemporary fashion, showcasing the creative prowess of Tessa Fay, an American independent designer brand. The collection features a variety of items, including the Tessa Fay X Urban Renewal Babydoll Top and Reversible Corset Top, each priced at $399.00.
Tessa Fay, founded by the grandmother/daughter duo Tessa Thompson and Fay Brassie in 2020, stands out for its use of upcycled vintage and salvaged upholstery & drapery fabrics. Each garment is sustainably made-to-order in their Atlanta-based studio, ensuring heirloom quality craftsmanship and unique, timeless styles.
This collection was part of Urban Outfitters' broader initiative to celebrate Earth Day by introducing capsule collections from emerging vintage and handmade designers, emphasizing the importance of sustainability in fashion. These pieces are described as one-of-a-kind vintage, highlighting the uniqueness and individuality that Tessa Fay brings to the Urban Renewal line.
Moreover, Urban Outfitters' expansion plans include adding 26 locations in fiscal 2024, focusing on the Free People, FP Movement, and Anthropologie brands, with an aim to open 58 stores and close 21 in fiscal 2025.
