Pick and pack

RETAILBOSS ReferenceUpdated November 2, 2026

Pick and pack is the fulfilment process of collecting the products required for an order and preparing them for dispatch.

How it works in retail

Picking identifies and retrieves the right items and quantities. Packing protects them, confirms the order contents and prepares the shipment for its delivery method.

A retail example

A warehouse worker collects a dress and belt, checks the sizes and packs them with the order documentation.

What to keep in mind

Speed alone is an incomplete performance measure. Item accuracy, packaging suitability and damage rates affect the customer outcome and cost.

Examples are illustrative. Terminology and measurement conventions can vary by business and market.
