Tech pack

RETAILBOSS ReferenceUpdated November 2, 2026

A tech pack is a specification document used to communicate how a product should be made, particularly in apparel and accessories.

How it works in retail

It can include drawings, measurements, materials, construction details, labels, packaging and revision notes. It supports communication between design, sourcing and production teams.

A retail example

A garment tech pack specifies the fabric, seam construction, measurement points and size tolerances for a jacket.

What to keep in mind

A tech pack should reflect the approved version. Uncontrolled changes or missing tolerances can lead to inconsistent samples and production.

Examples are illustrative. Terminology and measurement conventions can vary by business and market.
