Trunk show

RETAILBOSS ReferenceUpdated November 2, 2026

A trunk show is a time-limited presentation of a brand’s collection, often hosted by a retailer and sometimes attended by a designer or representative.

How it works in retail

It gives customers access to samples or styles beyond the host store’s regular assortment. Orders may be fulfilled later rather than taken home at the event.

A retail example

A boutique presents a designer’s upcoming occasionwear collection and takes orders for selected sizes and colours.

What to keep in mind

Communicate deposit terms, delivery expectations and cancellation rules clearly. A sample viewed at the event may differ from stock available for immediate purchase.

Examples are illustrative. Terminology and measurement conventions can vary by business and market.
