Walmart Opens Applications For Beauty Brand Accelerator

The world-renowned retail giant, Walmart has come a long way since its inception in 1962, when Sam Walton opened the first store in Rogers, Arkansas. Over the years, the company has grown exponentially, becoming the largest retailer in the United States by 1990. Walmart’s success can be attributed to its emphasis on customer attention, cost controls, and efficient distribution networks.

On March 20 2023, Walmart launched an exciting beauty brand accelerator program called Walmart Start. This program aims to give emerging beauty brands a chance to launch their products at Walmart stores, providing them with resources and support to ensure a successful launch. The selected brands will have the potential opportunity to be launched at Walmart between December 2023 and March 2024, although the exact launch dates are subject to change at Walmart’s discretion.

Walmart Start is open to hair, skin, cosmetics, nails, fragrance, and beauty accessory brands. However, brands with current or prior in-store modular placement at Walmart will not be considered for participation. The program offers various benefits to the selected brands, including education, brand activation, mentorship, and networking opportunities. Participants will also receive individualized support from a brand management consultant to help them navigate Walmart’s tools, processes, requirements, and reporting.

How to Apply

Applications must be submitted through the link here from March 20, 2023, through April 28, 2023. The finalist brands being considered for Walmart Start will be invited to participate in virtual beauty merchant meetings in June 2023, and the selected brands for Walmart Start will be announced by July 2023. (All dates subject to change.)

In addition to the Walmart Start program, the company has several other plans for the future. By 2023, Walmart aims to make significant changes to its stores, such as expanding its beauty department, reducing single-use bags, and introducing drone delivery services. The company also envisions a diversified business model that includes retail, financial services, and health/wellness offerings.

As Walmart continues to innovate and adapt to the changing retail landscape, the Walmart Start program is just one example of how the company is committed to supporting emerging brands and offering customers a diverse range of products and services. With its focus on growth and innovation, Walmart is poised to remain a dominant force in the retail industry for years to come.
