Ship from store

RETAILBOSS ReferenceUpdated November 2, 2026

Ship from store is an order-fulfilment method in which a retail store dispatches goods to a customer using its own inventory.

How it works in retail

An order system identifies an appropriate location, and store staff pick, pack and hand over the shipment. Store inventory becomes part of the delivery network.

A retail example

An online order is fulfilled by a nearby branch that has the requested size when the central warehouse does not.

What to keep in mind

Store stock accuracy and staffing matter. Shipping an item can affect availability for walk-in customers and create packing and carrier-handling work.

Examples are illustrative. Terminology and measurement conventions can vary by business and market.
