Minimum order quantity (MOQ)

RETAILBOSS ReferenceUpdated November 2, 2026

Minimum order quantity is the smallest order a supplier will accept under a particular set of terms.

How it works in retail

It may apply per style, colour, size, shipment or total order. Separate production and opening-order minimums may also exist.

A retail example

A supplier requires 60 units per style, with quantities divided among an agreed range of sizes.

What to keep in mind

Clarify what the minimum applies to. Meeting a total-unit threshold may not satisfy minimums for each colour or production run.

Examples are illustrative. Terminology and measurement conventions can vary by business and market.
