Bottega Veneta has joined La Cuadra in celebrating Junya Ishigami as the first recipient of the Barragán Prize, a new annual international architecture award named after Luis Barragán. The initiative places the luxury house within a cultural programme focused on architecture and the ways people inhabit space.

Bottega Veneta describes the prize as recognising individuals who challenge convention and extend the possibilities of architecture. Ishigami’s work was highlighted for its relationship with nature, landscape and human experience.

A gathering around architecture and craft Creative Director Louise Trotter and Bottega Veneta co-hosted a lunch with Fernando Romero to mark the award. Guests included Marina Abramović, Pedro Reyes, Benedetta Tagliabue, Jürgen Mayer H. and Raymund Ryan, according to the house.

The event brought architecture, art and design figures into the same setting. Its significance for the brand lies in that specific cultural association: Bottega Veneta is participating in an architecture award and its surrounding community, rather than announcing a product collection or a new store.
