Burberry Turns 1971 Quentin Blake Illustrations Into Modern Fashion Magic
Burberry has launched a new capsule collection with Sir Quentin Blake, bringing the legendary illustrator’s playful, very British imagination onto womenswear, menswear and childrenswear through bold, hand-drawn motifs and archival feather illustrations from 1971. The collaboration is rooted in a shared British heritage, translating Blake’s instantly recognisable line drawings and sense of “childhood magic” into ready-to-wear pieces, accessories and kids’ styles that feel whimsical yet distinctly Burberry.
A distinctly British creative partnership
An award-winning illustrator, Sir Quentin Blake has been a beloved figure in British art and children’s literature for almost seventy years, and he was knighted in 2013 for his services to illustration. Known worldwide for his expressive pen-and-ink drawings in classic children’s books, Blake brings that same loose, spontaneous energy to this fashion capsule with Burberry.
The project builds on both partners’ roots in British culture: Burberry, founded in England in 1856, and Blake, whose work has long…
been linked with London institutions and publishers. The result is a collection that feels nostalgic and contemporary at the same time, speaking to fans of Blake’s books as well as a new fashion audience.
Daniel Lee’s vision for the capsule Burberry Chief Creative Officer Daniel Lee framed the collaboration as a way to channel Blake’s signature storytelling into clothing and accessories. “Sir Quentin Blake’s illustrations capture a sense of childhood magic.
They have a very British style, and we wanted to bring his amazing creations into the world of Burberry,” he said. Under Lee, Burberry has leaned into rich, character-driven prints and motifs, and this capsule extends that direction through Blake’s instantly recognisable characters, line work and sense of humour.
The pieces align with Burberry’s current creative language while giving the collection a collectible, limited-edition feel for both fashion customers and illustration fans…
