BIRKENSTOCK has officially landed in Osaka. The German footwear brand opened its first ever concept store in Japan‘s second largest city on April 3, 2026, located at 2 8 28 Shinsaibashisuji, Chuo-ku, Osaka, in the heart of the city’s most active shopping corridor.

The 12th Store in Japan

The Shinsaibashi opening marks BIRKENSTOCK‘s 12th permanent, directly operated store in Japan, following the Ikebukuro store that opened in February 2026 as the brand’s fourth location in Tokyo. It is also the fourth BIRKENSTOCK concept store in Japan, following earlier openings in Harajuku, Shinjuku, and Nagoya, and stands as one of the largest street level retail spaces the brand operates anywhere in the country. Japan remains BIRKENSTOCK‘s largest market in Asia, making the Osaka opening a strategically meaningful milestone in the brand’s continued push to deepen its direct to consumer presence across the country.

A Store Designed Around Craft and Material

The two floor store is defined by a refined minimalism that places BIRKENSTOCK‘s craftsmanship and materiality at the center of the experience. A predominantly white color palette is complemented by traditionally crafted earthen walls, while signature brand elements, including cork and the brand’s distinct bone pattern, are carefully integrated throughout the interior design. The first floor features a dedicated Care Essentials area where customers can explore BIRKENSTOCK‘s foot and body care range firsthand, while the second floor carries the brand’s full product offer: from the iconic core collection of sandals, clogs, shoes, and boots to the premium 1774 line developed for the fashion and luxury consumer.

Japan as a Cornerstone of Global Retail Expansion

The Osaka store is part of a broader and accelerating retail expansion strategy that BIRKENSTOCK has been executing across key global markets. The brand is among a cohort of footwear companies, including HOKA, Salomon, and Clarks, that have committed to a strong wave of new store openings in 2026, focusing investments on strategic global hubs, major retail corridors, and culturally significant destinations where consumer demand for both performance and lifestyle footwear is growing. With Shinsaibashi already one of Osaka‘s busiest and most internationally visited shopping destinations, BIRKENSTOCK‘s first store in Japan‘s second city is well positioned to reach both local shoppers and the millions of tourists who pass through the district each year.
