Importantly, the implementation does not itself place orders or take payment. The customer completes the transaction on Shopify’s hosted checkout pages.

That separation matters commercially. An assistant can change the way shoppers navigate an assortment without replacing the merchant’s transaction environment.

For retailers assessing AI-assisted shopping, the immediate question is therefore not simply whether a chatbot can recommend a product, but whether recommendations remain connected to current merchandise and a usable purchase path. Shop sign-in is optional in the example.

Shopify’s documentation says authenticated catalog searches can return personalized results, while a guest route remains available without those credentials. Personalization is consequently an implementation choice, not a prerequisite for the basic shopping flow…
