Alexander McQueen and Huntsman Put Savile Row Bespoke on the SS27 Runway

Huntsman head cutter and creative director Campbell Carey worked with the McQueen team on the three designs. Huntsman says its cutters, coatmakers, trouser makers and finishers produced the garments at 11 Savile Row, shaping an elongated silhouette with broad shoulders and a high, narrow waist.

The tailor’s account of the project describes individualized shoulder pads and six layers of hand-shaped canvas inside each jacket. It says each garment’s finishing and pressing required about four hours apiece.

Those construction details explain how the runway proportions were achieved rather than treating the partnership as a name-only collaboration. The relationship reaches back to 2002, when Huntsman worked on a 12-piece McQueen menswear collection, and was renewed in 2012.

For SS27, the three designs include a Prince of Wales wool suit, a mauve summer-stripe jacket and a black wool barathea tuxedo. Huntsman says clients can commission all three looks through its bespoke service.
