AHLEM Opens Tokyo Atelier as Its First Permanent Asian Location

Architect Maja Bernvill developed the project with Tokyo-based architect Yuichi Hashimura. AHLEM identifies Isamu Noguchi and Hiroshi Sugimoto as influences on a layout that moves from a sculptural entrance through the collection display to a secluded room at the rear.

An atelier built around the fitting experience The curved display wall brings the assortment into view as visitors enter. Rather than separating the architectural concept from the selling space, the design uses that curve to guide customers towards frames, fitting areas and consultation.

Photographs show individually spaced eyewear, drawers beneath the displays and substantial wooden tables at the centre of the room. The private room is enclosed by a moving textile installation inspired by Japanese shoji screens.
