Hublot Returns to Its Gold-and-Rubber Origins With the Classic Fusion Tributo

The new models connect the company’s 1980 beginnings with its current watchmaking capabilities. Each carries a suggested US retail price of $30,900, excluding VAT, according to Hublot. An Archive Design With Modern Mechanics Crocco introduced the original at Basel Fair under the MDM Genève name.

The Tributo retains the restrained dial, date at 3 o’clock and twelve bezel screws, while increasing the case from the original 36mm to 38mm. The more substantial change is inside. A self-winding HUB1711 manufacture movement replaces the quartz architecture of the 1980 watch.

Its open-worked H-shaped oscillating weight is visible through the sapphire case back. “Today, seeing the very first design and the origins of the Art of Fusion brought back to life is deeply emotional,” Crocco said on Hublot’s yellow-gold model page.

Heritage Becomes the Product Proposition The yellow-gold version retains the clearest connection to the original contrast with black rubber, while white gold offers a second interpretation.
