Prada and Axiom Space have revealed a next generation cooling suit that sits closest to astronauts’ skin inside the AxEMU spacesuit, designed to keep them safe and stable as they walk on the Moon for the first time in more than 50 years.

What the LCVG actually is

The new piece is called the Liquid Cooling and Ventilation Garment (LCVG), a form fitting inner layer worn under the AxEMU lunar spacesuit. It acts like a wearable radiator, built with a dense network of fine tubes that circulate chilled water around the body to pull away excess heat during demanding spacewalks that can last up to eight hours.

Unlike legacy cooling garments that trace back to the Apollo era, this LCVG adds a fully redundant backup cooling loop, so if the primary system fails on the lunar surface, a second system automatically takes over. Alongside thermal control, a separate ventilation circuit…
