Urban Revivo’s New Sanlitun Flagship Wraps Beijing Moon Gates in a Purple to Blue Aluminium Façade
Chinese fashion brand Urban Revivo has opened a new flagship in Beijing’s Sanlitun shopping district, with a concept store designed by architecture studio MVRDV that links the brand’s forward looking identity to the city’s architectural heritage. The 4,120 square metre space is defined by a colour changing aluminium façade and a sequence of moon gate inspired interiors that turn retail into an immersive journey.
The flagship sits on Sanlitun West Street, between Taikoo Li Sanlitun’s South and North Villages, connecting a youthful fashion scene with one of Beijing’s key luxury destinations. Outside, the building is wrapped in a sculptural skin of suspended aluminium tiles and tubes finished in Urban Revivo’s signature blue. A dichroic coating allows the façade to shift between shades of blue and purple as visitors move around it and as light changes throughout the day, giving the store a constantly evolving presence on the street.
Seven circular…
openings, inspired by traditional Chinese moon gates, form entrances and display windows and establish the store’s main architectural identity. Inside, familiar elements from Beijing’s urban fabric are reinterpreted in a contemporary way.
The entrance and ground floor windows echo the geometry of moon gates, while grey brick finishes recall the textures of the city’s historic hutongs, grounding the bold new build in local context. The interior experience is conceived as a journey from traditional to contemporary.
As customers move upwards through the building, the characteristic archways evolve from rounded moon gates into a modern inverted curve, signalling a shift towards more futuristic forms.
Materials and accent colours follow the same progression, with livelier, more expressive treatments on the lower levels giving way to darker, more refined spaces above, mirroring the brand’s mix of playful and sophisticated collections…
