Fondation Cartier opens a bold new chapter in the heart of Paris with “Exposition Générale”, a sweeping look at forty years of international contemporary art and a decisive moment in the institution’s evolution.
A new home opposite the Louvre
On October 25 2025, Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain officially opened its new venue at 2 Place du Palais Royal in Paris, opposite the Louvre and the gardens of the Palais Royal. The Haussmann era building has been reimagined by architect Jean Nouvel, who previously designed the foundation’s iconic glass and steel site on Boulevard Raspail, giving the institution a new urban presence while keeping its architectural identity at the core.

Tuesdays. “Exposition Générale”: 40 years, 600 works “Exposition Générale” is the inaugural exhibition at the Palais Royal venue, running from October 25 2025 to August 23 2026, and retracing the foundation’s program since its creation in 1984 through a carefully selected group of emblematic works.
The show presents nearly six hundred works by more than one hundred artists, drawn from the Fondation Cartier Collection and past exhibitions, creating a living archive rather than a static retrospective.
Spread across the new galleries, the exhibition offers both solo and group presentations, with an emphasis on the long-term collaborations that have defined the foundation’s curatorial approach over four decades.
