The North Face Grossglockner Ultra Trail delivered a weekend of heat, elevation and serious determination, with athletes battling high temperatures and exposed alpine terrain around Austria’s highest mountain. Against that backdrop, Ida Sophie Hegemann and Pau Capell delivered standout performances, adding new chapters to their trail running stories.

Held from 23 to 26 July 2026 in the Zell am See Kaprun region, The North Face Grossglockner Ultra Trail (GGUT) is one of the Alps’ top trail events, with routes circling the Grossglockner through Hohe Tauern National Park. Distances range from the full 110km Ultra Trail with 6,500 metres of elevation gain to shorter, but still demanding, competitions such as the Osttirol Trail, Grossglockner Trail and Weißsee Glacier World Trail. High altitude passes, technical terrain and long stretches above the treeline make heat and exposure a defining part of race conditions.
