MCM Opens Kim Chang-ok’s Traces of Comfort Exhibition During Frieze Week Seoul

His work uses ottchil, a traditional Asian lacquer whose surface develops through successive layers and periods of waiting. The material gives the exhibition a connection with craft that sits alongside its cultural programming.

In MCM’s description, the lacquer’s development is shaped by natural processes as well as the artist’s decisions, making time and material change part of the work itself. The program connects its anniversary with an artist-led experience during a significant moment in Seoul’s art calendar.

The exhibition adds an accessible cultural element to MCM’s anniversary activity while keeping craftsmanship at the center of the presentation. Traces of Comfort is free and open to the public at MCM HAUS in Cheongdam through September 27.
