CHANEL Designs First Sporting Trophies for the 2027 Boat Race

The women’s and men’s trophies are the first sporting trophies created by the house. Their debut coincides with 100 years since the first Women’s Boat Race in 1927, giving the sponsorship a tangible part of the centenary rather than only a name on the event.

Arnaud Chastaingt, director of the CHANEL Watch Creation Studio, designed the trophies with equal dimensions. The women’s piece uses a white frame and the men’s a black frame, extending the contrast associated with the J12 watch. British silversmith Thomas Lyte made both pieces.

The organizer says development took almost two years and more than 320 hours of workshop work. Sponsorship expressed through craft The trophies were shown at the September 30 Presidents’ Challenge, the traditional start of the next race season.

CHANEL’s own description says the frames and silverwork were conceived to echo the watch’s design codes while remaining practical for winning crews to lift. The 2027 event is scheduled for Sunday, April 11. For the centenary, the men’s race is set for 3:40 p.m…
