Loro Piana Links Cashmere Supply Resilience to Its Mongolia Conservation Program

Loro Piana is putting the long-term health of its cashmere supply base at the center of its latest sustainability update. The House reported progress on Resilient Threads during UNCCD COP17 in Ulaanbaatar, connecting herder livelihoods, animal health and the condition of Mongolia’s grasslands to the future of the fiber.

This is an update to an existing initiative, not a new launch. LVMH announced the five-year program in May 2025, with a focus on five districts in Sukhbaatar Province. Its partners include the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, the Sustainable Fibre Alliance and Odyssey Conservation Trust.

Protecting the Source of the Product Loro Piana says first-year activity included One Health work, a biodiversity center, a report on the impact of extreme winter conditions known as dzud, and a rehabilitation program for the Bayandelger red goat.

The One Health framework treats the wellbeing of people, animals and the environment as connected. That structure matters to a business dependent on an agricultural raw material.

A sourcing relationship does not end with purchasing fiber: the ability of herders to maintain animals and viable grazing land affects the continuity of supply. Conservation and community support can therefore address operating risks as well as environmental objectives…
