LOEWE FOUNDATION Opens The 2027 Craft Prize With a €50,000 Award for Global Artisans
LOEWE FOUNDATION has opened submissions for the 2027 LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize, continuing its commitment to championing artists and artisans who push the boundaries of contemporary craft. The international award, now in its 10th edition, is open to professional makers around the world and will culminate in an exhibition of shortlisted works in spring 2027.
Inspired by LOEWE’s history as a leather workshop founded in 1846, the prize celebrates technical excellence, artistic intent and innovation across a broad range of craft practices. It is designed to recognise makers who work with traditional skills while bringing new ideas, materials and perspectives to the discipline.
The LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize was established in 2016 as a way to support the relevance of craft in contemporary culture. bookbinding. For the 2027 edition, applicants must be professional artisans aged over 18. Entries may be submitted by individuals or collectives, but each participant can enter only one work or series.
The submitted piece must be original, made either entirely or partly by hand, created within the past five years and not previously awarded a prize. These eligibility requirements reflect the award’s focus on originality and making. The prize is not solely about preserving traditional techniques.
It looks for work that demonstrates an exceptional command of materials while presenting a fresh artistic viewpoint. A successful entry may come from a deeply established craft practice, but it should also show how that practice can be reimagined for the present day.
The entry process is fully digital and applications must be submitted in English through the official LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize platform.
