Why Everyone Is Suddenly Calling Everything “Kinda Chic”

“Kinda chic” has become one of the internet’s favourite phrases of summer 2026. The format usually pairs a photo or video with a caption beginning with “kinda chic to…” and turns something ordinary, personal or unexpected into something worth celebrating.

The trend began appearing on Instagram in April before gaining momentum on TikTok through July and August. Some of the early posts focused on “body positivity and personal wellbeing,” rather than fashion or luxury. As more people adopted the format, the definition of what could be called “chic” became much broader.

Soon, everything from repeating outfits and being overdressed to knowing your barista or enjoying a quiet night in could be labelled “kinda chic.” Celebrities joined in too, with Drew Barrymore using the format to celebrate being in her 50s and Ashley Graham applied it to body confidence and cellulite.

The beauty world has naturally found its own way into the trend.
