Urban Outfitters Welcomes Boulder Students With a Custom Birkenstock Charm Bar

Urban Outfitters partnered with Birkenstock to welcome students back to campus in Boulder, Colorado, turning a seasonal retail moment into a local community event. The activation brought customisation, food, beauty touches and campus spirit together through a UO x Birkenstock charm bar inspired by the city.

Hosted at the Urban Outfitters store at 934 Pearl Street, the event connected the new-semester energy around the University of Colorado Boulder with a personalised product experience. The store sits in downtown Boulder, close to the student community and the city’s busy Pearl Street shopping district.

A Charm Bar for Boulder The central feature of the event was a custom UO x Birkenstock charm bar. Guests could personalise their Birkenstock footwear with a selection of charms inspired by Boulder’s local identity. The charm selection included mountain peaks, buffalo imagery and the Boulder sign.

Each detail referenced familiar symbols tied to the city and to the University of Colorado Boulder community, known for its Buffaloes mascot and “Sko Buffs” rallying cry. Personalisation transformed the event from a standard product promotion into a localised retail experience.

Rather than simply displaying footwear, Urban Outfitters and Birkenstock gave students an opportunity to create an item that reflected where they study, live and spend time.
