Maesa has officially sold Anomaly, the clean haircare brand it co-founded with Priyanka Chopra Jonas, to Reliance Retail, setting the brand up for a major push in India and beyond. Anomaly launched in 2021 as a partnership between Maesa and Priyanka Chopra Jonas, quickly carving out an international presence with its clean, vegan, and high-performance haircare line.
The brand exited U.S. retail at the end of 2025 to sharpen its focus on international markets, particularly India, where it had already gained strong consumer traction. The sale to Reliance Retail, one of the world’s leading retailers, includes the transfer of Anomaly‘s trademarks, brand assets, and digital properties.
For Maesa, the transaction is a deliberate strategic shift — the company is refocusing on brands anchored in the U.S. market across categories like hair care, fragrance, and skin care. Piyush Jain, Chief Executive Officer of Maesa, said, “This transaction reflects the strength of that foundation and our model — incubating, scaling, and thoughtfully transitioning brands at the right moment to unlock their next phase of growth.”
Isha Ambani, Executive Director of Reliance Retail Ventures Limited, said the acquisition marks “a strategic step in expanding our basket of new-age, high-growth beauty brands,” pointing to Anomaly‘s clean formulation philosophy and accessible pricing as standout strengths . Reliance Retail plans to scale the brand across India using its omni-channel capabilities and deep consumer insights .
Priyanka Chopra Jonas confirmed she will stay on as creative director, saying, “Their scale, retail expertise, and commitment to innovation will allow us to bring Anomaly to far more consumers in India and around the world.”
