Hermès Turned Dormant Materials Into a Skateboard, Swing and Surfboard For Petit H Workshop

Hermès is bringing its petit h workshop to Hawaii this summer, transforming its Ala Moana Center boutique in Honolulu into a world of playful objects, creative reuse and local artistic exchange. The limited presentation invites visitors to discover singular pieces created from dormant materials sourced from the House’s various métiers, each reimagined through the imagination of artisans, artists and designers.

Under the artistic direction of Godefroy de Virieu, petit h gives new life to materials that might otherwise remain unused. Leather, silk, porcelain, crystal and other remnants from Hermès workshops become the starting point for unexpected objects. The process does not begin with a fixed design. Instead, each creation emerges from the qualities, shapes and possibilities of the material itself.

This approach gives petit h its distinctive character. A wicker basket can become a skateboard. A swing can be dressed with multicoloured leather fringes. Silk can be transformed into poetic…
