The RealReal Enters Massachusetts With Chestnut Hill Consignment Store

The 1,800-square-foot store at The Street Chestnut Hill will handle fashion, handbags, jewelry, watches and accessories. Its services include one-to-one consignment consultations and private appointments for higher-value pieces.

The RealReal’s chief merchandising officer, Samantha McCandless, said: “Boston has been a market we’ve had our eye on for a long time.” The company said an existing local base of buyers and consignors helped determine the location.

That gives the opening a dual role: selling authenticated goods and sourcing inventory from the surrounding market. The expansion follows a second quarter in which The RealReal reported $617 million in gross merchandise value, up 22% year over year. Trailing-12-month active buyers rose 11%.

Those are company-wide figures, not projections for the new store.
